Crispy air fryer potato chips have been my boyfriend's favorite snack since I made it the first time. Not only this recipe he also loves cheesy air fryer mashed potato balls, air fryer potato wedges, and air fryer masala fries as a side dish.
Potato chips are a versatile recipe. You can always play around with the recipe and add your favorite seasoning. Easy air fryer potato chips have less oil that’s equivalent to no oil at all. The ingredients for the recipe are minimal and get ready in no time.
How to make air fryer potato chips?
You don’t need to stress about the ingredients for this recipe. The ingredients for these crispy and fresh potato chips are already available in your pantry. Let’s assemble them and start making them.
Ingredients for air fryer potato chips:
- 2 potatoes
- 1 ½ tablespoons of vegetable oil
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and Pepper to taste
- Chili Flakes (optional)
Instruction for air fryer potato chips:
- Wash the potatoes thoroughly with clean water. Peel the skin off or you can leave the skin on it’s your choice. Either way, it works.
- Use a slicer or slice it using a knife.
- Make sure that the potato slices are evenly cut.
- Now take a bowl of water and put the potato slices into it. Soak the potatoes in the water for 20 minutes. After that wash the potato slices at least 4-5 times to get rid of the remaining starch.
- Now place the potatoes on the paper towel and let them dry for a while.
- Transfer the potatoes into a mixing bowl to add oil, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Mix them well to coat the potatoes evenly.
- Preheat your air fryer at 190C/375F for 5 minutes.
- Put the seasoned potatoes into the air fryer basket in a single layer. Do not overcrowd the basket to avoid uneven cooking.
Cook the air fryer potatoes at 190C/375F for 15 minutes. Toss the potatoes halfway through the cooking process. - Remove the potato chips from the basket, serve and enjoy your crispy air fryer potato chips.
Note: Soaking the potatoes in the water helps to eliminate the potato starch from the potatoes. Eliminating the starch gives you the best result.

As I’ve mentioned potato chips are a versatile recipe. You can add any of your favorite seasonings and play around. Here are some of the variations I recommend that you to try:
Simple potato chips: Simple potato only needs 3 ingredients, they are potatoes, oil, and salt. This is the easiest way of making air fryer potato chips.
BBQ Flavoured potato chips: For bbq flavored potato chips you’ll need 2 potatoes, 1tbsp smoked paprika, ½ tablespoon garlic powder, ½ tablespoon onion powder, 1 tablespoon powdered sugar, 1 tablespoon chili powder, 1 tablespoon white pepper, ¼ cup oil, and kosher salt to taste.
To make the recipe mix the potatoes, oil, and some salt till combined. Then cook the potatoes at 190C/375F for 15 minutes. Toss the potatoes halfway through the cooking process.
