How to cook air fryer orange chicken?
Let’s start with the ingredients needed to make this delicious air fryer orange recipe.
Ingredients
- 1lbs chicken breast or chicken thighs (boneless, skinless)
- 2 tablespoons potato starch or cornstarch
- 1 egg
- Salt to taste
Ingredients for orange sauce
- ½ cup of orange juice (120ml)
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 2 tablespoons honey/ brown sugar
- Orange zest
- 2 tablespoon cornflour
- ½ teaspoon grated ginger (I used fresh)
- Sesame seeds and chopped green onions for garnish
Instructions:
- Preheat your air fryer at 200C/400F for 5 minutes. Meanwhile, your air fryer is heating cut your chicken.
- Cut them in 1 and ½ inches or bite-size. Make sure the chicken sizes are similar. This helps the chicken to cook evenly.
- Put the chicken pieces in a bowl or Ziploc bag and add the cornflour, salt, and egg. Mix them well to combine so that chicken cubes get evenly coated.
- Always add half of your cornstarch first and add more if needed. Adding an excessive amount of cornstarch won’t allow the chicken to brown correctly. So, avoid adding an excess amount of cornstarch at once.
- Tap out any excess cornstarch and place the coated chicken in the air fryer basket. Cook them at 200C/400F for 15 minutes or until the internal temperature of the chicken is 165F. Toss the chicken halfway through the cooking process.
Start cooking your orange sauce while the chicken is air frying.
Take a saucepan, put the orange juice, soy sauce, rice vinegar, brown sugar, ginger, orange zest on medium heat, and bring to a simmer. Let the orange sauce simmer for 5-6 minutes with occasional stirring.
While the sauce is simmering, start mixing the cornstarch and water. This mixture helps to thicken the orange sauce. Add the cornstarch and water mixture to the sauce and simmer for a minute or two and remove from the heat. The orange sauce gets thicker when cooled.
Remove the chicken from the air fryer basket in a bowl and add the sauce over them. Combine the sauce until the chicken is coated evenly.
Plate your air fryer orange chicken sprinkle sesame seeds and green onion on top. Serve your easy and delicious air fryer orange chicken breast and enjoy.
