Crispy accordion potatoes have been my favorite ever since I made them. You can serve them for any occasion to impress your guests with their appearance. Air-fried accordion potatoes are fun to make and the result is so satisfying. Among all other potatoes recipes, this has been my favorite.
What are accordion potatoes?
The accordion cut is the art of butchery. A thick piece of meat with a large surface is sliced from both sides in a parallel pattern. Similarly, accordion potatoes are first cut at a 90-degree angle, flipped over, and then cut at a 45-degree angle to create a net-like structure.

How to cut accordion potatoes?
Wash the potatoes and peel them if you like, because the potato peels are removed while cutting.
Now cut the 4 sides of the potatoes as shown in the picture. The potatoes should have flat surfaces on both sides.
Then slice the potato into ½ inch thick. And place 2 skewers on each side of the potato. This helps by cutting through the potato all the way down.
Start slicing the potato at a 90-degree angle, flip it over, and then cut it at a 45-degree angle. The potato should look like a net as shown in the picture below.
How to make air fryer accordion potatoes?
The challenging part of making air-fried accordion potatoes is the cutting technique. Once you succeed in that part then it’s super easy to cook them. They require a few ingredients and you are good to go.
Ingredients for air fryer accordion potatoes:
- 3-4 medium size potatoes
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions for air fryer accordion potatoes:
- Cut the potatoes into accordion patron by following the cutting technique explained above.
- Take a skewer and insert it from the middle of the potato. You should carefully do this process otherwise the potatoes can get ripped.
- Once you have finished inserting the skewer put them in the bowl of water for at least 30 minutes. You can cook them right away but if you have time you can soak them in water for a crispier result.
- Remove the potatoes from the water and dry them with a clean kitchen towel or paper towel.
- Take a small mixing bowl to add, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix them until well combined.
- Brush each side accordion potatoes with oil.
- And sprinkle the seasoning mixture.
- Preheat the air fryer to 200C/400F for 3 minutes.
- Transfer the season accordion potatoes to the air fryer basket in a single layer. Do not overcrowd the basket instead do it in batches if needed.
- Cook them at 200C/400F for 10 minutes. Flip them halfway through the cooking process for an evenly cooked result.
- Remove the crispy air fryer accordion potatoes and serve with your favorite dipping sauce and enjoy.

- Do not skip the preheating process while making any recipe.
- Use long-shaped potatoes for making accordion potatoes.
- Soak the accordion potatoes in water for at least 30 minutes. This will help to eliminate extra starch from the potato and gives a crispy result.
- Don’t slice the potatoes too thin, they should be at least ½ inch thick. Thick slices of potatoes are easier to slice into accordion shapes.

Put the leftover accordion potatoes in the air fryer basket and reheat them at 200C/400F for 1 minute. You have to keep a close eye while reheating them because they quickly get burned.

Yes, air-fried potatoes are better than deep-fried ones. The texture of potato air-fried potatoes and deep-fried potatoes are almost similar. But the air-fried potatoes have fewer calories than the deep-fried version.
Why do you soak potatoes before air frying?
Soaking potatoes helps to eliminate the extra starch present in the potatoes. Plus it also helps to prevent the potatoes from discoloring. This will give you crispy fries as a result.
Do I have to peel the potatoes?
No, peeling is not necessary while making air fryer accordion potatoes. Because we’ll only be using the middle part of the potato for making accordion potatoes.

Using a skewer for accordion potatoes is not mandatory, you can make them without a skewer.
