I love making spring rolls in an air fryer from scratch because they are better than the deep-fried versions or takeaways.
While making spring rolls from scratch you can add the fillings depending on your liking. You can make chicken spring rolls, pork spring rolls, or make some vegetarian spring rolls. Or make some frozen spring rolls straight away from your freezer. It’s easy, quick, and delicious too if you are too lazy to make them from scratch.
It’s a perfect treat when you add your favorite filling and enjoy the crispy spring rolls with a dipping sauce.
What are spring rolls made of?
Spring rolls are easy appetizers popular in China and other Southeast Asia. It is commonly made with a flour wrapper that is filled with vegetables and other ingredients. However, the wrapper, filling, and cooking method might be different depending on the region’s culture.
What is the difference between spring rolls and egg rolls?
There are a few differences between the spring rolls and egg rolls that can help you to identify them. They are:
Wrapper: The wrappers used for making spring rolls are thin flour wrappers or rice wrappers. Whereas the egg rolls wrapper is thicker.
Filling: Spring roll filling is usually made with vegetables and the egg roll filling is made with a combination of meat and vegetables.
Cooking Method: Egg rolls crispy texture is acquired by deep frying. Whereas spring rolls can be fried, baked, or sometimes not cooked only the fillings are cooked.
How to make air fryer spring rolls?
Air fryer spring rolls are crispy on the outside and filled with rich and flavor filling (vegetables/meat). You can make the spring rolls filling depending on your liking. Today I’ll be sharing the chicken spring rolls recipe because this is a favorite spring roll recipe of my family.
Ingredients for chicken spring rolls:
- 1 pound minced chicken
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 1 tablespoon garlic minced
- 1 teaspoon ginger minced
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- ½ teaspoon coriander powder
- ½ cup shredded cabbage
- 2-3 spring onions chopped
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 8-10 spring roll wrappers
Instructions for chicken spring rolls:
- Heat oil in a pan over medium heat and add the minced chicken cook until the water is completely dried, stirring occasionally, and cook the meat completely.
- Add minced chicken and cook ginger, and garlic until fragrance for about 30-40 seconds.
- Now add the spices, coriander powder, soy sauce, salt, and pepper. Stir and cook until the spices are cooked or until fragrance.
- Remove the pan from heat and add the chopped spring onions and stir to mix them.
- Meanwhile, preheat your air fryer at 190C/380F for 3 minutes.
- Place a spring roll wrapper on the working surface and add spoonfuls of the meat mixture to the center of the wrapper. Arrange the meat mixture parallel to your body.
- Wet the edges of the wrapper with a bit of water using your fingertip. Fold the sides of the wrapper over the filling and fold the bottom end of the wrapper over the filling. Squeezing the filling into the bottom wrapper roll up and make sure it is tight enough to hold on to the shape.
- Repeat the process for the rest of the remaining wrapper and filling.
- Place the spring rolls in the air fryer basket in a single layer.
- Brush or spray a light coat of oil over each spring roll.
- Cook them at 190C/380F for 8-10 minutes, until the spring rolls are crispy. Flip them halfway through the cooking process to make sure all the sides are golden brown.
- Remove the spring rolls from the basket, and allow them to cool for a while.
- Serve them with your favorite dipping sauce and enjoy your crispy spring rolls.

How to cook frozen spring rolls in an air fryer?
- Start by preheating your air fryer at 200C/400F for 4-5 minutes.
- Place the spring rolls into the basket in a single layer and brush or spray a light coat of oil over them.
- Cook the frozen spring rolls at 200C/400F for 8 minutes. Flip them halfway through the cooking process. Adjust the cooking time depending on how crispy you want your spring rolls.
- Serve with your favorite dipping sauce and enjoy.
