I generally prefer using fresh fish but you can even use frozen it works perfectly.
If you’re using frozen, thawing fish is important. You can thaw the fish in the refrigerator overnight or you can just leave it on the counter for a couple of hours.
If you’re wondering what kind of fish can be cooked in the air fryer? You can use any kind of fish fillets like tilapia, catfish, cod, haddock, salmon, and many more.
I’m using codfish to make this recipe. Let’s dig into the air fryer fish recipe.
Air fryer fish ingredients
- 800g fish fillets fresh/frozen (cod)
- 1 tablespoon vegetable/olive oil
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and Pepper to taste
Air fryer fish instructions
- If you’re using frozen fish for this recipe completely defrost the fish before seasoning the fish. I’m using fresh codfish so I’ve washed them and dried them with a clean kitchen towel. You can also use a paper towel for this process.
- Put the fish fillets in a bowl and add all the spices (oil, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper) coat it well, and set aside.
- Preheat your air fryer at 200C/400F for 2-3 minutes. This process gives you the best result.
- Place the seasoned fish fillets in the air fryer basket in a single layer and cook at 200C/400F for 15 minutes. Flip the fish fillets halfway through with the help of a spatula.
- Remove the air fryer fish and serve with your favorite dips and lemon wedges.

- Remove any extra moisture from the fish before breading.
- Place your fish fillets in a single layer for the best result. If you overcrowd the air fryer basket your air fryer fish will steam.
